The Lansing Board of Water and Light will create the first community solar parks in their service territory.

The BWL, City of East Lansing and City of Lansing made the announcement today. The parks will have fields of solar panels and will allow BWL customers to use solar power without installing their own panels on homes or businesses.

One resident tells us it’s a great way to use technology to evolve with the times. “I think that solar in Michigan and throughout the country is really the beginning of a kind of big movement right now. We are starting to see a lot of development and it’s becoming way more affordable and I think we’re going to see a lot more projects like this around the state,” says Andy McGlashen, a resident of East Lansing.

Two locations are in the works. The first will be built at Burcham Park in East Lansing. The second will be located in Lansing.
